SALALAH: A strategic agreement between Oman Air and Fun & Son to expand direct flights between the Sultanate of Oman and Russia to Dhofar Governorate with the aim of boosting tourism movement and supporting efforts to diversify tourism markets.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new headquarters of Grand Tours Company in Salalah, under the auspices of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, in the presence of a number of officials and representatives of the aviation and tourism sectors.

The agreement sets for resumption of direct flights between Moscow and Salalah from September 2026 with two flights per week, increasing to five flights per week starting next November.

This is in addition to the launch of direct flights from the Russian cities of Kazan and Yekaterinburg, thus enhancing air connectivity between the two countries and keeping pace with the increasing demand for the tourist destination in the Dhofar Governorate.

It was also announced during the occasion that an agreement was signed between Grand Tours and Fun & Sun Kazakhstan to launch direct flights between Kazakhstan and Dhofar Governorate, starting on October 20, 2026, with 4 flights per week, in a step that contributes to expanding the targeted tourism markets and enhancing the Sultanate of Oman’s presence in the Central Asian markets.

These programmes are expected to attract more than 40,000 tourists to Dhofar Governorate during the upcoming tourist season as well as support the tourism and hospitality sectors and enhance the economic impact of tourism activity in the governorate. — ONA
